Examples of medical conditions in this group:
- Multiple sclerosis
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
- Tourette syndrome
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Alzheimer’s disease
Neurological disorders are illnesses of the brain, spinal cord and everything related to the nerves (cranial nerves, peripheral nerves, nerve roots, neuromuscular junction and muscles). These may include epilepsy, dementias (i.e Alzheimer’s disease and others), stroke, migraine and other forms of headaches, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, infections of any of the components, brain tumors, autism and Tourette syndrome (World Health Organization, 2016, Solimini et al., 2017). Cannabis has been used as supplementary therapy for several of these disorders, but the strongest evidence (low to moderate) is for multiple sclerosis, for neuropathic pain, spasticity and incontinence(Solimini et al., 2017). Furthermore, epilepsy is the second best studied for cannabis use but only for intractable epilepsy (uncontrolled seizures despite treatment). It is FDA-approved (FDA, 2018).
As a group we recommend to start medical cannabis acknowledging a physician.
